Algarve Bird WatchingJoin is for a fantastic Algarve bird watching holiday! The warm spring days are an idyllic time to explore the Algarve and observe a wide variey of interesting birds from Hoopoes to Purple Gallinule, Azure-winged Magpies to White Storks. On this trip you'll go far off the tourist track and discover a land of estuaries and salt pans, wooded hills and quiet marshes where the diversity of its habitats make for a truly memorable week?s birding.
Algarve Bird Watching Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 ? Arrive at Faro Airport and drive to the cottages. A 3 course evening meal of traditional home cooked Portuguese cuisine and wine will be served in guest accommodation. Day 2 ? Boat tour on the Ria Formosa nature reserve- a haven for over 100 species including flamingos, spoonbills, purple swamphens and a large colony of purple herons. In the lagoon formed by the Ria, keep your eyes peeled for some beautiful examples of grey herons, bee-eaters, great reed warblers and marsh harriers. Day 3 - Guided visit to habitats in Salgados and Sagres on the western tip of the Algarve known as the Costa Vicentina, where at the headland of Cabo Sardão, you'll be able to observe the world's last population of white storks, nesting in the cliffs in the abandoned nests of ospreys. Day 4 ? Guided visit to habitats in Castro Marim and Tavira in the Eastern Algarve. Day 5 ? Tour to be confirmed. Day 6 ? Free day to relax in the sunshine or explore the local area. Day 7 ?
