Come climbing in Madeira- the perfect adventure playground island!
Here with your head in the clouds, the fresh mountain air in your lungs and the adrenaline pumping through your veins we’ll make you feel on top of the world! Currently we offer four climbing trips in Madeira: one for beginners and three for regular climbers.

In addition our guides can teach you how to climb on an indoor climbing wall if you would prefer to start in this environment.

Before each session you will be given a detailed briefing by our experienced guides to ensure you are comfortable with the equipment to be used and the route to be taken. Each climbing session takes about 4 to 5 hours and costs €60 including experienced guides, all equipment, transport from Funchal, photos, water and chocolate to keep your energy up!

The climbing trips run with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 8 for the easier routes or a maximum of 6 people for the climbing routes in the mountains. Please with any questions about climbing in Madeira.

An Indoor Introduction to Climbing

If you have never climbed before this is the ideal introduction to climbing equipment. rope work and basic climbing techniques and safety rules. The session will be held at a purpose built indoor cimbing wall and you will be taught by our specialist guides.

Novice and Intermediate Rock Climbing in Madeira

These climbing sessions take place in Baia de Abra, Ponta de São Lourenço. This is a beautiful, big bay at the heart of the Madeira natural park and a lovely spot to learn to climb or improve your skills. The crags offer a great selection of routes climbing to a height of about 15 metres and ranging from grade 3 to grade 5. This makes it an excellent choice for novice climbers and families. After learning the basics of climbing you will start on the easiest routes and make your way up to the more difficult ones should you wish to do so.

Climbing in Madeira’s Mountains – 70 euros pp

This climbing spot is located at one of Madeira’s dramatic, mountain top, beauty spots between Encumeada and Bica da Cana. It is the ideal spot to get more experience in traditional climbing techniques. It offers a good quality rock face apt for placing protection for a safe climb up to 20 metres in height at grades 3 and 4.

Practicalities of Climbing in Madeira

Please note you must be at least 14 years old to come climbing in Madeira, under 18s must have permission from a parent or guardian. The minimum size to participate safely is 135cm tall and 30kg and the maximum size is 115kg or 210cm tall. On each trip you should wear comfortable, sports clothes and sneakers or similar.
