Lisbon is a great base for kitesurfing as there are a good number of renowned kitesurfing locations within easy reach with spots suitable for all levels including the famous beach at Guincho, Carcavelos and Fonte da Telha and Alcochete and the Lagoa de Albufeira.
Whether you are an experienced kitesurfer or this is your first time our knowledgeable local guides will show you the best the region has to offer and ensure you get the most from your stay. There is a long kitesurfing season in Lisbon. High season is mid March to Mid October with good conditions for much of this period. In the low season kitesurfing is still possible on windy days. On still days when it is not possible to kitesurf you can try your hand at stand up paddle surf or surfing.
By choosing to kitesurf in Lisbon you can combine kitesurfing with all the attractions of the city. With a vibrant history, culture, shopping and nightlife and beautiful beaches, there is also plenty to appeal to any non kitesurfing friends or family members.
During your time here you might choose to stay in the capital itself or in or around Cascais which is a pretty seaside town close to Guincho beach. There is also the option on joining our kitesurf camp.
Learning to kitesurf in Lisbon
If you would like to learn to kitesurf in Lisbon you will be taught by friendly instructors who are fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, Portuguese. The instructors are fully certified by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) to offer kitesurfing courses in Portugal. They will adapt the courses to your needs so you will find yourself progressing quickly and gaining the skills to be kitesurfing confidently and safely.
There are a number of courses available starting with a half day taster course. The taster course introduces you to the basic principles of kitesurfing and is entirely land based.
The 3 day beginners kitesurfing course allows you to achieve IKO level 1 and 2 starting from zero it will give you a solid base of knowledge and skills so you can get out on the waves and kitesurf independently! The five day course takes you that bit further so as well as gaining IKO levels 1 and 2 it includes more exercises to give you the confidence to control the kite and get to the point when you are self sufficient, riding upwind comfortably and ready to try your first jumps. At the end of the five day course if you are staying locally we will also give you a further five days of gear hire (3 hours/day) and expert advice free of charge so you can continue to practice your new skills!

Experienced kitesurfers keen to kitesurf in Lisbon can take advantage of our equipment rental service as long as you have IKO level 2 or equivalent. If you have already passed a beginner's course but haven't been out on the water for a while or would like to perfect your technique, learn jumps or finally start kitesurfing in both directions then we also offer intermediate and advanced courses.
Finally anyone interested in making kitesurfing their profession can study for the Assistant Kiteboarding Instructor course with us, an essential prerequisite for the IKO instructor training course.
