Madeira buggy tours

The Madeira buggy tours let you see the best of Madeira and have an adventure doing it!

The buggy tours have been carefully designed to show you natural highlights and the most dramatic coastal or mountain views. Leaving the road far behind we will take you to the top of the island and show you places that will take your breath away.

Experienced local guides will accompany you to ensure you get the most from your trip. Our buggies are designed and ready to take on all terrain! They are 4×2 drive vehicles with rear traction, suspension, automatic transmission and 260 CC engine. They are very easy and comfortable to drive even when it gets bumpy! There are three Madeira buggy tours to choose from ranging from one and a half hours to five and a half hours.

90 Minute Buggy Tour

On our short buggy tours you can choose between two routes, both are 80% off road and offer amazing views. The first takes you to the heart of the island for impressive mountain views and the second to the coast and the famous Cabo Girao. If you can’t decide why not do the three hour tour that takes in both!

Route 1: Lugar da Serra – Boca Corrida – Jardim da Serra – Campanáiro. Highlights of this route include the viewpoint at Boca da Corrida which is approx. 1000m above sea level in the Jardim da Serra the highest part of Estreito de Camara de Lobos. It offers spectacular views over the valley of the nuns (Curral das Freiras) Eira do Serrado and the central mountains.

Route 2: Lugar da Serra – Cabo Girao – Vineyards – Jardim da Serra – Campanario On this route we head to Cabo Girao west of Funchal. One of Europe’s highest capes it’s an almost vertical promontory which plunges 589m down to sea level with magnificent views of the coast, Camara de Lobos and Funchal.

Three Hour Madeira Buggy Tours

90% off road! Highlights of the three hour tour include the spectacular views from Cabo Girao (as described above), a route right through the famous Madeiran vineyards and a visit to the viewpoint of Boca da Corrida for fantastic mountain and valley views.

Five and a Half Hour Buggy Tour

Our longest safari begins at the Trompica viewpoint for gorgeous views and the chance to visit the site of Sao Paulo and its little known springs. This is the highest village on the island and a great place to relax and take photos. There are usually cattle grazing quietly on the mountain sides or sauntering down the road! The route takes us next to Paul da Serra the largest and most extensive plateau on Madeira covering about 24 square kilometres at an average altitude of about 1500 meters. The highest point is Pico Ruivo do Paul which offers breathtaking views of the entire plateau and on a clear day, the south and north coast. From there it’s on to the awe inspiring Cabo Girao before heading for home. This tour is 75% off road and usually runs on Fridays.

To drive a buggy you must have a valid driving license. Please note due to the bumpiness of offroad driving the Madeira buggy tours are not suitable for pregnant ladies or anyone with spine problems. It might also not be suitable if you have severe allergies to plants or insects as we will be in close proximity with nature!
